2009 is the fifth year for the Sun City Texas Woodworkers Club to join the American Cancer Society’s 26th Annual Camp Discovery. Our Club developed a woodworking project for the 150 children ages 7-17 from Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio who have been diagnosed with cancer that attend the camp. All children attend at no charge while medical and nursing professionals, program leaders, lifeguard and counseling staff work on a voluntary basis.

Don Webster, Bob and Faye Freeman spearheaded this year’s effort.

This year’s project - a wooden foot stool kit (see photo below) – was cut, dadoed, routered, drilled, and sanded weekend of June 13 & 14.

Over 30 Woodworkers donated their weekend to this effort.  These kits will be taken to the camp for the children to assemble and finish during their stay at Camp Discovery. A team of Club members will travel to Kerrville to assist during the week of the camp (July 13 – 17).
