Purpose of Toys for Tots Program
The Toys for Tots program was originally developed as a training opportunity for members who are either new to woodworking machinery or are unfamiliar with the equipment in our shop. That is still part of the purpose of this program.
When the program’s productivity reached the stage of significant excess toys, it was decided to contribute the toys to local charitable organizations. These organizations are selected based upon their ability to distribute the toys to needy children at Christmas time. This outreach program is fully endorsed by the Sun City Community Association and is financed thru a budget allocation within the Sun City Woodworkers budget.
The woodworking machine tools used by the Toys for Tots program include:
Additionally, sanding techniques and finishing procedures are taught. These elements of the program are critical to the production of quality products.
Lastly, and perhaps the most important – SAFETY will be emphasized and demonstrated in this program.
The program is important to all who participate, but, because it’s a supplemental program that extends for several months a year, it’s important to not dominate the shop equipment with toy making activity. Every effort shall be made to use the shop equipment for toy making and for toy making training activities during normally less busy shop hours in order to not disrupt normal shop activity.
