The Sun City Woodworkers Club strives to continue to provide training to improve each member’s skill level.  To that end, we have several classes conducted by experienced woodworkers.  Special emphasis is given to the safe use of our equipment.  Members desiring to attend these classes should sign up at the monitor’s desk in the shop.  

Prepayment for the classes ($2 to $10) is required to reserve a spot in these controlled size classes. 

The following outline for each Training Class is provided to give participants a brief idea as to what is covered.  

CABINET MAKING

  1. Learn to build garage or kitchen cabinets

  2. Creating a design - doors, drawers, or shelving?

  3. Create a material list

  4. Face frame joinery - pocket screws, biscuits, dowels

  5. Wall mounting techniques

  6. Assembly and gluing techniques

SHAPER MACHINE TECHNIQUES AND QUALIFICATION

A. RAISED PANEL CONSTRUCTION

  1. Learn raised panel construction for cabinet doors

  2. Selecting the frame

  3. Shaper setup

  4. Cope and stick

  5. Assembly techniques

B. FINGER JOINTING TECHNIQUES

  1. Join short lengths of hardwood boards available in the shop into longer boards.

  2. Wood preparation

  3. Shaper setup

  4. Proper gluing techniques

BOX MAKING 101

  1. Wood preparation

  2. Rabbets

  3. Miters

  4. Cutting and securing lids

  5. Clamping and gluing techniques

PICTURE FRAMES
